1 week in

It has now been one week since I brought Levon home and he is doing very well. Eating, drinking,  and going to the bathroom regularly. The gabapentin is really helping with the pain and he has only growled a little twice since starting it Friday night. We spend a lot of time snuggling on the couch and he often falls asleep on my chest as I rub his belly. Cliff is getting a little better and can even tolerate getting his attention with Levon nearby. lol I think now I need to start preparing for when he gets more energy and off his isolation in few weeks. Any suggestions? He was never one to get in the highest perches because of his weight, but I know there are certain areas I can add a few steps to make life easier. I’ll also have to modify the opening to my little cat door in the door leading to the basement and I plan on making a platform on the top step to eliminate going through the opening and down one step at the same time. Should I add carpeting to the steps? Pretty sure I know answer but thought I would ask anyway. And I do plan on buying plenty of runners as there is only 1 room in my house that currently has carpet in it. I’m sure there are plenty of other modifications that I haven’t even considered yet. Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Thanks

Levon and Jeff

  1. Hey it’s great to hear from you, we’ve all been wondering how things are going. This sounds like a pretty good, typical Trikitty recovery so far. YAY!

Any time you can add traction we recommend it. Even when we don’t ‘think’ they need it, those Tripawds are working hard to keep their footing and avoid slipping.

As for activities, have you seen all the TriKitty games that Purrkins gets to do with his brother Saxon? They double as weight-loss activity too so a win-win. See:

  2. I’m glad to hear Levon is doing better! The family should get back to normal, our guys were back to being brothers in a month! I think the biggest suggestion would be steps or form of steps. Making ways easier to get down for Levon. Traction (rugs). I would carpet the landing for sure and the steps. We got rug runners and rugs for Purrkins. We put carpet treads on the steps.

As Jerry pointed out food puzzles are fun for them it will help in stimulating his mind and working for food.

Keep Healing Levon we look forward to seeing pictures of you!

  3. Well you can laugh, but I have a chest of drawers in Huckleberry’s room that I emptied. I put a soft pad on the bottom of the drawer, then i found a couch pillow that i placed under the half open drawer for a step and stabilization to get into the drawer. Whatever works between what you buy and what you already have hanging around the house works. Those spongy thingies to stop throw rugs from slipping, and carpet pads on steps. Huck doesn’t have free reign yet, but when he does ill watch for problem spots. We’re cheering for you and Levin, sending all the spiritual support that I can.
    Take care of you two😊
